The guys at Realityloop did a better version of this module, called Deepzoom - probably worth using that instead of this! (currently D7 only though)
Microsoft Zoom.it converts your image to the Deep Zoom format, which lets you smoothly and efficiently explore the whole image, no matter how large. Check out Deep Zoom Studio for examples of this technology in action.

This module is pretty much obsolete, replaced by Deepzoom, but if you see value in this module and would like to see it maintained, I'll be happy to hand this over to any responsible Drupalitizen.
