Scald Gallery Extras provides Taxonomy based bulk Atom Reference insertion for Scald Gallery.

It adds a "Tag" autocomplete textfield, and a "Insert items" button to the atom reference widget, which allows to add all image atoms tagged with the specified tag;

It currently uses the standard scald_tags vocabulary, but can easily be modified to use user defined vocabulary, or even the "Image Galleries" vocabulary of Drupal 6 Image package (this cannot be automated, as the migration package keeps the original machine name, in a form like vocabulary_6, which is site dependent)

On July 09, 2013 :
Following scald_gallery sahaj's issue “Displaying image title AND author name”, automatically fills gallery-items Title with source image's Title and Author;
Additionally, fills gallery-items Description with source image's “field_description”, if such field exists;
If scald_iptc is installed, this description field have been filled with “Caption/Abstract” IPTC tag of original image :)
