A few notes from a new Drupal user

My name is Willy Smith, and one of the hats I wear is as webmaster for SSC (publisher of Linux Journal, among others). I've just gotten past the knee of the learning curve on using Drupal for two of our sites, Linux Gazette and A42.com. Dries asked me to write an article some time ago to share my experience.

Genealogical support

Is there or is anyone working on Genealogical module for Drupal?

Pointing to good practices related to modules

The Drupal case studies is interesting and very useful when deciding wether to create a new project with Drupal or not. The more complete list of Drupal also helps but having a subjective-official list of recommended sites is a way to show good practices.

It would be also useful to have something similar related to the modules. For some reasons:

- You are hesitating wether to install or not a module and you'd like to see it in action. Some module pages offer links to see the module in action but many don't.

taxonomy - suggested reads?

hello all -

so i am quite new to web development, and such - i am more aware, and akeen to doing tech support on the server side of things, but im now getting into creating actual webpages... i mention this because for some reason or another, i find it quite challeging to grasp the whole concept of what drupal terms taxonomy... yes, i may very well be 'dense'. so i come to the drupal community to ask - where can i get more information on what drupal terms 'taxonomy'. it seems this is a very resourceful aspect of using drupal [which i really love the project so far!], and there are many advantages to using taxonomy.

i've read the admin guide for drupal, and specifically the part about taxonomy, [many times, just to see if i am missing something] - but for some reason, i just 'don't get it' - i dont understand what the hell taxonomy is, and how drupal incorporates it. =)

so, i tried creating 'taxomony' similar to what is shown in the drupal screen shots in the taxomony section --- i want to create a page like the front page of my drupal install for a cisco ccna site, just gerneral discussion, posting of articles, and such. so, i created the following 'vocabulary';

name: ccna - cisco certification
node types: story

and the following term;

Image module - delete files or just nodes?

I'm using image.module for my galleries. When a picture node gets deleted, does the image and its thumbnail get deleted also or just the node only? What about when a taxonomy term used as a gallery gets deleted? Do all the actual image files get deleted or just the term?
