So, I have a drupal site and I would like to add a photo gallery to it so users can make albums, upload photos, rate and comment them, if they could upload video it would be nicer.

If you want photo and video uploads handled by one module take a look at the acidfree module.

if you don't want to use
if you don't want to use video then use the image module in combination with image_gallery module.
I don't know your exact plans but if you want per user albums acidfree might be the better choice. creating galleries with image_gallery is a more adminstrator / site owner task than a user task in my opinion.

Acidfree sounds like
Acidfree sounds like something I'd really like to use as well. I see though that the version for 5.x is still in development and has not been updated in a few months. Do you feel it's stable enough for production use? (going back now to look at recent support requests)
I have problem with acidfree
I remember having problems using acidfree in 5.x few weeks ago. forgot the exact problems but something with incorrect/missing function I guess.

I have the feeling like Acidfree development has stoped, but that may be just me, but it has been like a year sice the last stable release, I like gallery2 but it is too big. what would be the best way for a gallery for users to update photos?
