esmerel commentedTaking this one with the hopes I can do something useful with it.
I suspect the issue queue one will roll over with 'report a problem', but there's no reason those pages can't link to each other.
esmerel commentedIRC - http://drupal.org/irc
Mailing lists - http://drupal.org/mailing-lists
Issue queues - http://drupal.org/project/issues/subscribe - this definitely needs more fleshing out in terms of appropriateness of using queues, how to use, etc, but this dovetails pretty heavily with 'reporting a problem.'
base forum page - http://drupal.org/forum/0
Planet - http://drupal.org/planet - needs info on posting and reading
The dojo is ostensibly at http://drupaldojo.net/ but it's been out of commission for a bit
Comment #3
esmerel commentedDojo actually appears to be up yay!
http://drupal.org/aggregator might actually be a better link to put in, with planet as a subheading as well as dojo and talk.
At that rate, it might be worthwhile to crib some of the stuff from http://drupal.org/support because that page has a lot of places that point at how to get in touch with the community as well.
add1sun commentedChanging status since it has lots of good stuff already.
nielsbom commentedChanged the component to reflect the new component categorization. See http://drupal.org/node/301443

add1sun commentedhm, so do you suppose that the list of "resources" should just be listed on one page with an explanantion of what it is and what its for? Also the external language communities were just removed from the support page itself and put in their own handbook page. That would be a good one to link to as well. http://drupal.org/support-in-other-languages
Comment #7
Wolfflow commentedI have read the http://drupal.org/support-in-other-languages and I found that really good!
add1sun commentedAlso for the Issue queue one, we have a whole section about it so we should send people there for more info. http://drupal.org/node/240213
Comment #9
esmerel commentedI think we want to make sure we make it clear what 'resources' we're talking about and make it clear we're talking about places to get help/learn from others/etc as opposed to "go read this doc" because they're not quite the same thing. Well, in Drupal they are in a lot of ways, but not always. But we may have hashed that out already and my brain has forgotten :D
Yes - a link to that support page is a really good idea. Goodness knows there are many non-native (and assuredly not at all) English speakers in the community :)
Also YAY on the issue queue thing - the more places people can find that, the better.

add1sun commentedPages to be moved here too:
How to enact change: http://drupal.org/node/36602
Tips for posting on the forums: http://drupal.org/forum-posting
So, maybe a (new) landing page that explains what communicating with the community means and gives direct links to "resources", i.e. link to the forums. Then also have a the pages that explain more about each resource underneath (except issue queue which is important enough to be its own section in the book). "How to enact change" at the top of the list of subpages?
So like maybe:
Talk with the Community (top level)
- How to enact change: http://drupal.org/node/36602
- Tips for posting on the forums: http://drupal.org/forum-posting
- IRC: http://drupal.org/irc
- Mailing lists: http://drupal.org/mailing-lists
Comment #11
add1sun commentedPages moved, the landing page needs to be filled out.
add1sun commentedNew landing page is at http://drupal.org/node/314178
Changing title of the issue since this is ongoing work.
mike booth commentedI've written text for the landing page. Thanks for the excellent outlines.
Please take a look at the landing page at http://drupal.org/node/314178 and report/enact any fixes that seem necessary.
heather commentedThat is a great landing page!
- I also thought, since the forum, IRC and such are duplicated in 'If you're looking for help:' and 'News and Discussion' that it would be important to link to the Groups as well. I added the link. More and more it is important for people to find like-minds since the Drupal.org community is simply so huge! I wish that this was the first place people could go.
- I added the section 'if you're offering help'. I feel it needs some advice for those "offering" advice. I'm running into flaming, and negativity in the forum, and wishing that we had some guidelines for those giving help- as much as we give guidelines for those asking for help. I put in links to the MeatballWiki... I don't know if this is out of order- but that site has alot of great advice. I sense that there could be a whole page on offering support(!) I often want to point other posters to something like that.
add1sun commentedAh yeah, @heather, we totally could use a top-level page on Support in the Getting Involved guide. I created a new issue for that: #317282: Getting Involved: User Support
Comment #16
heather commentedThanks for adding the page. I linked to the new page from this 'talk with the community' landing page.
johnnocI think we can safely change the status of this to "fixed". IMO, the Talk with the community page is ok. A still open issue is not needed for minor edits and additions to that page. :-)
