After the enormously successful DC Drupal meet-up, myself (Ted Serbinski), Eric Gundersen (Development Seed), and Tim Jones have decided to create a DC Drupal Google group to further faciliate the growing DC Drupal community. If you're interested and are in the DC area, please signup! We hope to have our next event on March 22nd, details soon.

DC Drupal Meet-up
The list serve is active and the next event is coming!
Drupal users and developers by geographical location
Feel free to add yourself to the Drupal user and developer groups on Frappr which can help you find others in your area.

Good luck with your meetup and thanks for your contributions!

We'll add this to groups.drupal.org
Walt -- groups.drupal.org is under development. It's likely we'll use the location module to do this directly in Drupal.
Excellent idea!
Thank you Boris! I'm not a developer but am trying to do my part to help bring together Drupal users and developers via collaboration and meetups to further the Drupal cause.
Plus, I think the Frappr functionality that shows Drupal users and developers by location on a worldwide map is soooooooooo cool! :)
Any time frame on when a decision might be made to use the location module for groups.drupal.org?

problems with groups.drupal.org
I tried to logon from IE and failed (couldn't even put my cursor in the logon field). Logon from Firefox works. IE also screws up the screen display on some pages. There doesn't seem to be any place to post comments about groups except here. I tried projects and modules. What code is running on groups.drupal.org if I wanted to add groups to one of my sites?
organic groups
organic groups is the module running groups. The site is not quite "live" yet. Thanks for the IE report...we'll check into it.
How do I start a group
Would like to start one in my area. Any hints on how to get the ball rolling?
Have fun and check my Drupal Profile: http://drupal.org/user/519
Hints should be a part of groups.drupal.org
Excellent question!
I hope a "hints" section is part of the new groups.drupal.org.
vwX, why don't you see if you can put together a collection of "hints" from previous meetups and then have the collection submitted to drupal.org as a page somewhere? You could probably ask Boris (found in the link above) where to place the collectin of "hints", and you can easily find lots of info to cut and paste together for your "hints" section by simply visiting the meetups and other events listed at Drupal events.
Then, when groups.drupal.org is launched, your contribution would perhaps be a part of that as well.
Great initiative to try and start a group in your area and I applaud your efforts!

Re: Frappr The only problem
Re: Frappr
The only problem with this is you have to register to add your name to the map. More spam........
