Would there be any interest in this? A plain text field would do IMHO.

apadernoI don't see any reason why the field could not be added.
Instead of having a different field for each possible social network, it would be probably better to have a single form field the users could use to insert their ID for any for the social network they have an account in.

apadernoI just expressed my opinion, but that is not enough for the change to happen. Even if I can add that field, it is necessary other webmasters, or administrators chime in to report if it is desirable to add that profile field.

apadernoAlternatively, we could use a single textfield generic enough for the users to use it for any social network IDs they should have. In such case, they should prefix the ID with the identifier of the social network (in example,
, , , ).Comment #5
mr.baileysI'm very much in favor of allowing d.o. users to share their twitter usernames.
However, I think we should not restrict this to just twitter. There are all kinds of social networks for which a user might want to share their moniker (Facebook, LinkedIn, ...), and after all, Drupal is all about community, right? So I think kiamlaluno's suggestion of making this a free-text profile field is the best way forward.

apadernoAs suggested by mr.baileys, the field now used for the IRC nick can be extended to include other IDs (including social network IDs). This would allow to use http://drupal.org/search/drupalorg/ to search them too. In this case, the search tab should be renamed from to something more suitable.
As the code of the module handling that search tab is written, users could get the list of all users who reported a twitter account by searching for
. I think it could be useful, and it is not different from the actual situation, where users can find all users with an IRC nick starting with k, in example.Comment #7

chrism2671 CreditAttribution: chrism2671 commentedHmmm. Seeing as there has been no movement on this, how about we just add a textfield for people to write what they want in? I'm concerned any kind of complex solution may actually never appear- indeed it would be better to have something now rather than nothing until the end of the year- what are your thoughts?
