Is it possible to untar in Windows? If so, how?
We need to uncompress the Drupal files for installation.

Googling for 'archiver' should get you any of the zillion programs out there that support TAR/GZip. Winzip, Winrar, Winace, 7zip, ...

I did google and the results were overwhelming. I spend a lot of time wading through useless hits. Here, I am trying to save time and was looking for specific information as to which program(s) to use and where to dl them.

It seems to me that this information should be included on the page where one DLs the Drugal files.

Thank you in advance for you assistance.

I gave you the names of 4 programs which can untar! Do you expect us to hand them to you on a gold platter? Open-source support is volunteer based, and we don't have time nor desire to hold your hand for trivial issues.

Typing any of those 4 names into google gives you the correct site as first hit. Either you are horrible at googling, or just plain lazy.

Obie: install this and all your pains will go away: http://www.7-zip.org/

when installed, right click on the name.tar.gz and choose extract all. This will leave you with a file name.tar. Repeat the proccess and you will have all your files extracted.

tar.gz is a double compressed file extension.

This is very basic information, but I'm so glad you followed through and got all the details in one spot. I have no idea what "Drupal" is, but now this page is a very useful hit for "untar windows" in a search engine. Good volunteer "job", thank you.

Besides mentioned programs, you can use PowerArchiver or if you prefer command line handling to simulate Linux shell commands you can use UnxUtils in which case you need to add their install dir to system paths on Windows (under System Properties/Advanced/Environment Variables).

Couldn't help but notice that it takes so much more effort to be rude (Steven, typed 7 lines) than to be nice (Arnabdotorg, typed 2 lines).

Thanks Arnabdotorg, I got to your response directly from a search engine!
