The reality is Views3 won't take off until most of the cool views-contrib work on Views3. I'm already using a few views-contrib modules and none of them work with Views3 or even have a dev release compatible with Views3. Of course I'd like to help and submit patches to those modules, except that I'm not that familiar with Views.

So my suggestion to the Views3 maintainers: it would really help Views3 to have a screencast targeted towards views-contrib developers (and patchers that want to help them out) on how Views2 differs from Views3 so we can port these views-contrib modules as soon as possible. I'd like to use Views3 and all the hard work you guys have put into it, but it sucks how all the views-contrib modules are pulling it back.

Please post here when you've got something ready.

Found a list from another thread of modules that added Views3 support. Maybe views contrib maintainers who've added support for Views3 could help the rest and show them how they went about adding support.

I suggest that it's better to have good documentation.

Does developers look at videos, i don't think so.

Documentation is harder to produce than video. Also, do developers look at videos? Sure, I do. It helps me absorb more material when I've worked 15 hours a day and my eyes are virtually bleeding. Moving your eyeballs is tough after working many hours so a nice quick screencast helps. Regardless, documentation or videos, all good. Someone will take the quick screencasts and make decent documentation out of them.

sorry, but this is just not going to happen any time soon. Screencasts aren't magically simple for everyone to just whip together, and they're not an effective tool for at least some of the maintainers. It's hard enough getting even reasonable documentation into the code; screencasts just aren't likely to happen unless someone else takes up the challenge.

Do you want to do it? Fine. I think the time will be better invested in documentation.

Screencast showing code examples is quite boring :)

Well I for instance do not think that Views_RSS is compatible with Views 3. See #934826: What is wrong with this feed?. I cannot get it to work.

This is not a general support issue for views3, sorry.

Sorry to comment on a closed issue, but the discussion about a screencast throws me off a bit... Am I correct to understand there won't be views 3 compatibility for simpleviews?

Thanks in advance
