I just registered a domain name with Go Daddy yesterday and have been trying to decide on a CMS to use for building the new website. I'm completely new to websites development (although pretty tech/web savvy). I've looked around at multiple free/opensource CMSs Drupal, Joombla, Mombo as well as commercial ones like Dreamweaver and FrontPage and decided I'd try Drupal (liked the capabilities, style and available support). However I just noticed that 5.0 Beta is available (and getting great reviews).

My question is, would it be better to use an older 'more stable' version to learn or should I jump in to 5.0 with both feet? Also, is there anything special I need to know about hosting on Go Daddy? Or is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks in advance! Look forward to learning Drupal (either version)!

The biggest problem you'll run into with using the beta is that most of the contrib modules won't be updated until at least RC1, and many much later. Take a look at this thread to give you an idea of when modules you may be interested in will be ready:

I agree. If you are working toward a fully setup site, with many contrib modules, in a short order, then 4.7.4 is what you need. There will be a dedicated upgrade path for the core, and many modules will get updated eventually.

But, if you have a little longer of a timetable, and you really want to get the inner working and comprehend the power of drupal, then 5.0 is a great place to begin. The new core features and the new theme, really are going to give drupal a boost.
