Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
It looks like a Drupal 7 version as discussed here http://drupal.org/node/604018 will take quite a bit of effort.
In the meantime I'm wondering if people can recommend combinations of other modules available for D7 that replicate some of the functionality of WebFM for D7.

wagafo CreditAttribution: wagafo commentedI've also looked around and could not find anything for Drupal 7. I haven't played much around with Drupal 7 yet, and I don't know if the core file upload modules have improved file management or if it still creates a flat file system structure as it is until Drupal 6.
The only, sort of, alternative that I found was CKeditor with CKfinder, but CKfinder is commercial and the free version is limited and reminds you of the full version.

Crusher CreditAttribution: Crusher commentedHi,
what about AjaxXplorer?
http://www.ajaxplorer.info
It's a very good file manager. Unfortunally there is only a bridge for D6. I only miss an feature similar to webfm's file protection.
I haven't tried the bridge right now. But feel free to use the demo on ajaxplorer.info
It's really a fantastic file manager - stand alone. Hope the bridge will provide "Browse"-Link, etc., too.

mgiffordAny thoughts on migration if WebFM isn't going to have an upgrade path?
nhck CreditAttribution: nhck commentedWell in my humble opinion the smart way would be to implement the missing features in Media browser plus and then create a module that moves webfms files to Media.
mgiffordDo we have a list of missing features? Seems like it might be the way to go. Media already has an install base of 3836 sites.
wagafo CreditAttribution: wagafo commentedGetting the features into Media and implementing a smooth migration from webfm is a perfectly valid alternative. What I can't do is to go back to a flat file system after using webfm in my sites. Webfm has still a very large installed base.

paulgemini CreditAttribution: paulgemini commentedWhat's the best way of simply displaying files for download for the user in an attractive format? I know I can create a node with links to files, but is there a Views File Display with Ajax or something like that? In other words - if I simply want to display files but don't need to allow non-admins to upload files on the fly.

acbramley CreditAttribution: acbramley commentedsub. I've tried using the Media module and it by no means does what webfm did in 7. In fact I prefer core file upload by far.

mgiffordGreat that there's a discussion to rewrite WebFM for D7 - #592956: [discussion] Ground-up rewrite of WebFM
Hopefully it gets the right team behind it to implement this project well.
I thought about marking this as a duplicate issue, but until there is a workable dev release I think it should stay open.

zap-admin CreditAttribution: zap-admin commentedJust thought I'd add that there's now a D7 version/bridge of Ajaxplorer..... going to try to install it and see what happens. I'll report back with details. I've been using WebFM with another D6 web site so that I can make downloads only available to registered users..... i.e..... try and get people to register with the site and it's been successful. But I'm trying to do all new Drupal sites in D7. It's just easier to maintain for the most part. Anyway, I'll see how this bridge works or doesn't and report back since as of today, some 6+ months after you post.... WebFM still shows no signs of migrating to D7.
FOLLOWUP:
Ended up not even bothering with the bridge. Just made file downloads totally open for the site I was trying to finish up. Kind of took the easiest way out.....LOL. Sorry about that. May try again with another site I'm working on.

mgiffordFound this sandbox which looks like a AjaXplorer implementation:

Worth keeping track of.

arcane CreditAttribution: arcane commentedCould only get the D7 version/bridge of Ajaxplorer to work in guest mode right now. I'll report back if I can get it fully working as an integration solution.

stuen93 CreditAttribution: stuen93 commentedZap-admin: did you upgrade from a D6 site with WebFM to a Drupal 7 site? I originally used WebFM in a Drupal 6 site for our school district but then started moving away from it when it looked like there was not going to be a Drupal 7 version of the module. The only issue is that our Cross country and Track coaches loved the module and have over a couple of hundred files in it that I need to somehow migrate in to Drupal 7.
stuen93 CreditAttribution: stuen93 commentedSo in case anyone is interested, the route I am going to go is to use IMCE and the IMCE WYSIWYG modules. I am still going to have to go and change a bunch of links on pages that had webfm links but other then that this should fit what we need.

Daniel Wentsch CreditAttribution: Daniel Wentsch commentedAs I'm also looking for an Alternative to WebFM I'd like to throw in two modules I found while reasearching:
Take Control
http://drupal.org/project/take_control
filedpot
http://drupal.org/project/filedepot
Maybe that's of any help when searching for the like..

kaizerking CreditAttribution: kaizerking commented*This file depot has issue we need to use libraries 7.x-1.0. if you use any other version it wont work, My other modules require newer libraries module
*Take control is just file browser and it cannot be used for front end use. kind of admin tool
So i have to look for some other alternative.
has any one tried cmis

Frank Steiner CreditAttribution: Frank Steiner commentedSome time has passed... Has anyone successully switched to an alternative? One of those mentioned above or sth. else?
We are still on D6 but I'm afraid of the day support for it will be dropped. We need at least the possibility to store files in the filesystem instead of DB, page-based authentification (only access files when you can access at least one page the file is attached to), the possibility to attach files to more than one page, and of course, a good file browser for users editing pages.

Frank

kaizerking CreditAttribution: kaizerking commentedyou can use IMC or elFinder file manager
Comment #29
shaesenHi Folks,
I think elFinder is a good alternative for WebFM !
Just one little problem for the moment: In the left pane the different volumes I created are not shown in alphabetical order ... (or any specific order).
Kind regards,
Stefaan

bib_boy CreditAttribution: bib_boy commentedWell on quick inspection of Filedepot and elfinder, i think I'm going with elfinder primarily as you can set the root folder to be your existing WEBFM folder and it works straight away. I think filedepot was wanting me to create its own folder and in that case I would have to had uploaded all my files again.
One thing is going to be to change all the webfm_send links in nodes to the actual urls. I can use pathauto (i think) for this and see how it goes.
I'll see how elfinder goes and report more later.

AaronBaumanHas anyone successfully migrated from WFM D6 to IMCE D7?
I'm about to undertake this migration, so any tips would be much appreciated.
wagafo CreditAttribution: wagafo commentedI finally migrated webfm and I'm using Elfinder, it's just a file manager but at least I still can get the file structure that I had in webfm. Maybe this has to be complemented by a "knowlege management" module, if any is written.
I have written a blog entry on the process especially of fixing the webfm links in the site:

Rt_Bower CreditAttribution: Rt_Bower commentedI'm surprised there is still no solution to replace WebFM in Drupal 7. If I'm wrong please enlighten me. I've been Googling for a solution. Thanks!!

acbramley CreditAttribution: acbramley commented@Rt_Bower hey try the Media module https://www.drupal.org/project/media

wagafo CreditAttribution: wagafo as a volunteer commentedI think that now it is clear the webfm will never be ported. I've substituted it by "elfinder" in all my installations long ago.
