Just tested in a clean 8.2.5 installation using 'Ace format' as a display formatted in the Article teaser body field. The ace panel is hidden if 'auto' height is used. This is the more convenient option for adjusting the field to the code snippet length. It works fine in the D7 branch .

Tryed to apply path, have some warnings:

ace_editor-auto_ height_in_Ace_formatter-2846046-2.patch:38: trailing whitespace.

error: .DS_Store: No such file or directory

Also tried to manually add code from patch, problem still exists.
