On checking for updates for 7.x-2.0-alpha2+14-dev I got the error "Installed version not supported". Is it possible to downgrade from 7.x-2.0-alpha2+14-dev to 7.x-1.6?

It's been unsupported for quite some time so I'm not sure why you're seeing the error message all of a sudden.

If you do decide to downgrade, you should completely uninstall 2.x first, including doing things like deleting taxonomy_menu's variables with drush.

@dstol: Don't worry, the error appeared long time ago, it just was not a priority, as there was no security advisory. Thanks for clarifying the down grade process.

I only support 7.x-1.x branch as most of the users are using it, 2.x does not even have stable release, so I don't see any point to move it further.
