-Note - this is a write-up in progress, doing my best to add info ASAP-
The website
http://www.adrenalinesports.net is a concept which we started in 2001, on the domain adrenalinsports.nl. In the years following, the site grew to 50,000 unique visitors per month, plus reaching a pagerank of 7 in 2007. The (non commercial) website quickly became victim of its own success though, as all of the volunteers working on it struggled to maintain the web of scripts which made up the website. In 2007 we decided to start from scratch, but due to all of us being busy, this only kicked into gears in 2009.
First things first - the choice for Drupal
The hardest choice for me was which platform to built on. This is a summary of the most important "musts" for the system;
- ACL support in core
- Seperation of layout & code, good template system
- Ability to override core
- Proven track record and sustained development
- Availability of modules to ease development
- Ability for multi-lingual website
After quite some research & try outs, we choose Joomla at first, but as we did not like the way the development went, we decided to give Drupal a try. After having spent some time getting used to it, Drupal was chosen for the new site.
