Pagebuild Case Study

pagebuildPagebuild allows non technical users to build websites very quickly and easily. It was built on top of Drupal, with the idea behind it being to provide an editing interface that is so simple, even an adult could use it. This is a explanation of what we did and how we went about doing it (and why).

Portfolio Site

Greetings,

I recently finished my portfolio site in D7, and I thought I'd share it here. It's the first site I have ever developed with Drupal, so go easy on me!

The URL is http://www.rickomann.me.uk/ - it's running Drupal 7 with the following modules:

...among a few others, but these are the main ones affecting the frontend. I mainly used Panels & Views for the front page, and some embedded Views for the portfolio section (http://www.rickomann.me.uk/portfolio). I used References to create relationships between testimonials and projects, and a combination of Gallery Formatter and Colorbox to create the miniature screenshot galleries on pages such as this one. Amidst all that, I did a lot of custom templates. The theme is something I created from scratch and implemented with Drupal.

Stock data sources compared for reliability

Click here to go to the stock website

I've retrieved income statement data (total revenue, gross profit, operating income, & net income figures) for over 3000 NYSE stocks taken from the cnn, msn, quote, and yahoo finance websites.

Google finance data was not included because the financials are not available via the url.

You can view the results by clicking "Stock" > "Income statements table" in the "Navigation" block.

CountyHealthRankings.org | High performance Drupal site with data visualization

The County Health Rankings are a key component of the Mobilizing Action Toward Community Health (MATCH) project. MATCH is a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

The www.CountyHealthRankings.org site provides access to the 50 state reports, ranking each county within the 50 states according to its health outcomes and the multiple health factors that determine a county’s health. Each county receives a summary rank for its health outcomes and health factors and also for the four different types of health factors: health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors, and the physical environment. Each county can also drill down to see specific county-level data (as well as state benchmarks) for the measures upon which the rankings are based.

Brief History

The University of Wisconsin's Population Health Institute has been ranking the health of Wisconsin counties for years. In 2010, they wanted to launch this data online. CountyHealthRankings.org provided the first look at the overall health of local communities across the country. While other studies have ranked entire states on health factors, this was the first to reveal the impact of multiple health factors in nearly every U.S. county.

Stock Photo website showcase - UPDATE: Improving search

Hello All,

http://www.free-jpeg-images.com is a new stock photo website that provides free jpeg images to download. The usage of the images is in line with CC 2.5 license. The particularity of the website is the rich images data information which is actually extracted from the metadata of the original jpegs.

The import process is realized by creating a node for every image and adding the image metadata into separate CCK field. In the beginning I planned to use the imagefield import module, but quickly found out that it enabled to import title and description fields only, which was not enough. Therefore, I created a custom module that created nodes and imported all needed metadata such as location, country, city, author, keywords, size etc ... .

During the import process, keywords are integrated as Drupal taxonomy tags. This enables to use the full potential of Taxonomy.

In addition, another simple custom module was created in order to generate the left side list of image categories. Basically, the module scans all node's city and country CCK fields in order to create a list. This operation is run only when new images are imported.

Contributed module used are: CCK fields, views, imagecache, pathauto, captcha, webforms and XML sitemap. The core taxonomy and search module where activated.

Portfolio Site

I just redesigned my portfolio site to be more stylish and easier to update. I used Drupal mostly for the slideshows. I'm hoping to get some feedback on the overall look and feel.
