Our best looking site ever - http://www.cityhairremoval.com/

A brave statement and obviously not the best looking Drupal site ever, just ours.
cityhairremoval.com is a hair removal beauty website, written in Drupal 6.
We chose Drupal 6 rather than 7, because we have still not set-up Varnish. However without Varnish as a reverse proxy, we have had great success tuning the APC module with cacherouter to give some very fast page return times (better than memcache on our humble virtual box).
The client brief was as follows. "We want it to:

  • look beautiful
  • create a great first impression
  • be SEM friendly"

Only local images are allowed.
Our client liked the look of a few flash sites, so our first task was to convince our client that we could do a great job without resorting to Flash, and all the damage that might do to search engine rankings. We feel we achieved this with two simple tricks

  • Firstly we used the splash module to create a completely custom landing page www.touchsmooth.com/hair-removal/splash although we love the splash module, it does at times feel unreliable and does not seem to fire all the time.

Todeschini | Furniture Company from Brazil uses Drupal 6.20

Todeschini is the biggest furniture company in Latin American with more than 60 years of history, and its website has a fundamental role in the company’s marketing, specially in the relationship with clients and stores worldwide.

With more than 120.000 visits and 1.500.000 pages views monthly, the website is the first contact between Todeschini and thousands of clients, making it an important tool for searching Todeschini’s products and stores.

Thus, we had to create a website with an awesome visual that would not leave performance aside.

Although MMDA has been using Drupal since 2008, the previous website of Todeschini was using a CMS developed with ASP3.

So, to migrate the content to Drupal, we used Node Import module, which has a good configuration interface to import data and is able to import a lot of content ready to be put to production.

We chose version 6.20 for Todeschini’s website because it has many modules ready to be implemented and a lot of support from the community. Next, the list of modules used by area:

- Development area: Administration menu, Devel (to be more specific, we used Devel Generate to create markup content), Module filter, ModuleInfo, Taxonomy Manager, Poormanscron, LoginToboggan, Conditional Stylesheets.

tiPythia Trading Diaries: A social investing marketplace.

What is tiPythia Trading Diary Exchange?

tiPythia Trading Diary Exchange provides an online marketplace for creating, sharing and selling trading diaries and investment strategies. Successful investors can make money by selling subscriptions to their trading diaries to other investors through tiPythia Marketplace. Users who subscribe get visibility into their individual trades and receive alerts as trades are opened and closed allowing them to replicate investment returns. tiPythia can be used to track trading performance as a tool, to practice trading strategies, or if you are already a successful trader, sell subscriptions to your trading diaries online. The earnings that the tiPythia website collects through selling online subscriptions to trading & investment diaries are redistributed back to the diary creators (less the website percentage fee).

Background

tiPythia was started as a start-up project in 2009. While a handful of new social investing websites existed for tracking and publishing portfolios, none had addressed the reason why anyone would be motivated to do so in the first place. Many of these sites were reliant on advertising revenue to survive and most burnt through their start-up capital and disappeared.

Teatro Carlo Felice Website

Introduction

Genova Città Digitale is an office of the Municipality of Genoa, Italy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genoa) and its purpose is to produce and manage web products, as we explain in our last case study (http://drupal.org/node/1014582). Our last fruit is the new website of the Teatro Carlo Felice, which is the principal opera house in Genoa and it is worldwide famous. The site features a daring visual design by Federica Scaraglio which reminds to the theatre structure, while project development and implementation are due to Antonio Pastorino (http://drupal.org/user/686294), Gabriele Arecco and Lorenzo D’Agostino.

Major Features

cf_mainThis website is about an opera house, so editor users need to be able to publish up to date information about exhibitions, shows and performances taking place in it. This website makes possible to create, modify and delete opera and concert content types, Youtube embedded videos, image galleries and news. Editors can also decide which performances and news has to be shown in the homepage, through a set of queues.

Rate My Eyes: Facebook app built entirely in Drupal

Before I get started, let me explain that I'm just one guy. I'm not a professional web developer or programmer, and I don't have a team of developers working under me. It's just me. I decided I wanted to build a Facebook application based entirely on Drupal, and I feel pretty good about how it turned out. I don't expect this case study to be featured on Drupal.org's front page, but nevertheless I hope it's is an inspiration to others who don't have the resources of full development teams. The "little guy" can do it, too.

Background

I started a Facebook fan page on a whim, and after a few months it had gained nearly 100k fans, purely organically. I realized that I had an opportunity that doesn't come along every day: to reach 100k people simply by posting a status update. I set out to capitalize on that opportunity by building a photo-rating Facebook application in the same vein as HotorNot and other sites of that nature, which I would then promote on the aforementioned fan page. I surveyed the competition in the FB App Directory and found it lacking. I knew I could do better.
