We are interested in developing privatemsg so that it enables multiple recipients.
Is this the right place to discuss about this or should I start a thread somewhere else (to reach right persons for discussion -> avoid duplication of efforts etc.)?

Thank you for summarizing these for us --this helps a lot for planning our site development. I'm not sure if this is the place to post a recent 'Not Supported' message on my status page. Is there or will there be an update soon to eliminate this error message?

Folks, please start new issues for separate issues. This summary issue isn't the place.

That "not supported" is because the 1.x line is still considered the official version even though 2.x is so much better. ;)

This version of Privatemsg is not supported anymore, maybe it is already implemented in Privatemsg for Drupal 6 and if not, you are welcome to open a new issue for it.
